Discount calculator showing sale price and savings

A discount calculator turns any "percent off" into real money. Enter the original price and the discount percent to see the final sale price and exactly how much you save. Double-discount mode handles stacked promotions (like 20% off plus an extra 10% off), which do not simply add up.

Tip: "20% off + extra 10% off" is NOT 30% off. Use double-discount mode to see why.

How do you calculate a discount price?

Multiply the original price by (1 - discount/100). A $120 item at 25% off costs $120 x 0.75 = $90, saving you $30. Enter any price and percent above for the instant answer.

The amount saved is simply original price minus final price. Both figures are shown in the breakdown.

How do double discounts work?

They multiply, they do not add. "20% off plus an extra 10% off" a $100 item means $100 x 0.80 = $80, then $80 x 0.90 = $72: an effective 28% off, not 30%.

Retailers stack discounts this way because each discount applies to the already-reduced price. Use double-discount mode to compare stacked deals honestly.

What is the formula for percent off?

Final price = original price x (1 - percent/100). Savings = original price x percent/100. For 25% off $120: $120 x 0.25 = $30 saved.

These are the same formulas the calculator applies, shown under every result so you can verify.

Frequently asked questions

Can discounts exceed 100%?

No. The calculator caps each discount at 100%, which makes the item free. Anything beyond that is not a discount.

Does it include sales tax?

No. Discounts apply to the pre-tax price, so enter the shelf price and add tax separately with the sales tax calculator.

Why is a double discount less than the sum?

Because the second discount applies to the reduced price, not the original. 20% then 10% equals 28% effective, as the formula shows.

Can I use decimals like 12.5% off?

Yes. Any decimal percent works in both single and double discount modes.
