Ready β€” press the mic to start

Tip: the recognizer pauses on long silences and auto-resumes. Speak in a quiet room, close to the mic, for best accuracy.

SRT subtitles use the timestamps recorded while you spoke. If you edit the text above, TXT export follows your edits; SRT keeps the original timing.

How this works β€” honestly

  • 🎀 Transcription runs on the Web Speech API built into Chrome/Edge β€” that's why it's free and unlimited: there's no server of ours doing the work.
  • 🌐 Your browser sends audio to your browser vendor's speech service (e.g. Google's, in Chrome) for recognition. We never see, store, or transmit your audio β€” there isn't even a backend to send it to.
  • πŸ”‡ Needs an internet connection and microphone permission. It won't work offline.

Frequently asked questions

Which browsers are supported?

Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge (desktop and Android) β€” they implement the Web Speech API. Firefox and Safari do not support it, so this tool can't work there. If you open this page in an unsupported browser you'll see a clear notice instead of a silent failure.

Is it really unlimited? What's the catch?

Yes β€” unlimited minutes, no account, no watermarks. There's no catch on our side because the recognition is done by your browser's built-in speech engine, not by our servers (we don't run any). Paid tools like Otter.ai cap free plans at around 300 minutes/month; here there's simply nothing to cap.

Is my voice recording uploaded anywhere?

By us: never. This page has no backend. However, be aware that your browser itself streams audio to its vendor's speech-recognition service (Google's servers, in Chrome's case) to convert speech to text. If that matters for sensitive material, check your browser vendor's privacy policy.

Can I upload an audio/video file to transcribe it?

Not yet β€” this version does live microphone transcription only. File-upload transcription (e.g. of a recorded lecture) is a possible future addition; it needs a heavier on-device model, so we're keeping this tool fast and simple for now. Workaround: play the audio out loud near your mic while this page listens.

Why does it stop when I pause?

The speech engine ends a session after a period of silence. This tool auto-resumes listening, so just keep talking. If it stops entirely, check that the tab is still active and your mic permission wasn't revoked.

How accurate is it?

Comparable to mainstream dictation (it's the same engine Chrome uses). Accuracy is best with a quiet room, a decent mic, and clear speech. Technical terms, heavy accents, and overlapping speakers reduce accuracy β€” review the editable transcript before using it.
