Paycheck calculator showing US take-home pay after taxes

A paycheck calculator estimates how much of your gross pay you actually keep. Enter your pay and frequency to see federal income tax (using 2025 IRS single brackets), Social Security and Medicare (FICA 7.65%), and state income tax for Texas, Florida or California applied, with a full per-paycheck and annual breakdown.

Estimate only: uses 2025 IRS single brackets (2026 figures TBD). Simplified assumptions: standard deduction, no credits, no pre-tax deductions. Not tax advice.

How much of my paycheck goes to taxes?

It depends on income and state. A single filer earning $75,000 in Texas keeps roughly 81% after federal tax and FICA, since Texas has no state income tax. Enter your figures above for an exact estimate.

The biggest slices are federal income tax (progressive brackets) and FICA (7.65% on most wages). State tax adds more in states that levy one.

What are the 2025 federal tax brackets for single filers?

2025 single brackets: 10% to $11,925; 12% to $48,475; 22% to $103,350; 24% to $197,300; 32% to $250,525; 35% to $626,350; 37% above. The $15,000 standard deduction is subtracted first.

Only income inside each bracket is taxed at that bracket rate: earning $50,000 does not mean all of it is taxed at 22%.

How does FICA affect my take-home pay?

FICA takes 7.65% of most wages: 6.2% Social Security (only on the first $176,100 in 2025) plus 1.45% Medicare on all wages, with an extra 0.9% Medicare above $200,000.

Unlike income tax, there is no standard deduction for FICA: it applies from the first dollar you earn.

Which states have no income tax?

Texas and Florida are among the nine states with no broad individual income tax, which is why the calculator applies $0 state tax for them. California has a progressive income tax with rates up to 13.3%.

No income tax does not mean no taxes: these states rely more on sales and property taxes.

Frequently asked questions

Which tax year does this paycheck calculator use?

2025 IRS federal single brackets with the $15,000 standard deduction. 2026 figures are TBD, so treat results as estimates and verify before making decisions.

What is the California figure based on?

A simplified version of the 2025 California single brackets with the $5,363 standard deduction. It is labeled an estimate: real California tax involves credits and adjustments not modeled here.

Does it include pre-tax deductions like 401(k) or health insurance?

No. Enter your gross pay before those deductions; the calculator models taxes only. Pre-tax contributions would lower taxable income in reality.

Why is Social Security capped?

Social Security tax (6.2%) only applies to the first $176,100 of wages in 2025 (the wage base). Medicare has no cap. The calculator applies both rules.

Is this tax advice?

No. It is a planning estimate with simplified assumptions. For filing or big decisions, verify with IRS and state sources or a tax professional.
